The Lou Messugo Blog - life in the south of France from a British/Australian TCK's perspective, bringing you French culture, travel on the Côte d'Azur and beyond, expat issues and a little bit of je ne sais quoi all mixed up with a hefty dose of photography.
Here's a handy little list of the Top 10 most popular posts from 2013. Handy for you, readers, to look back over or to read for the first time, and handy for me to try and work out what it is that you enjoy.
1. TOP 10 things to do with children on the Côte d'Azur
2. Pancake Day - La Chandeleur - another French feast!
3. Skiing with a sea view, another Riviera secret
4. Hogs, frogs and fireflies
5. Nice Carnival, a colourful tonic for the winter blues
6. The Nice midday cannon - a surprising tradition
7. TOP 10 things to do with young teens on the Côte d'Azur
8. The circus - and France's love affair with it
9. 3 of the best snacks from Nice
10. What is Goûter? It's tea-time, kids!
Number one came out so far in advance of all the rest with over double the amount of views as number two and 4 times more than number 3. I guess the magic words "children", "to do" and "Côte d'Azur" come up in online searches regularly. Maybe I should pay more attention to SEO keywords but I write from the heart and never think about such things. "Serious" bloggers would probably shake their heads despairingly at this revelation...
There are three posts about food. Perhaps no surprise there that they were popular, but I have written plenty more about tasty morcels which didn't even make it into the Top 20. Two posts about children/teens, 3 posts about Nice (overlaping with food), one about a local activity - skiing - one about a more generalised activity/entertainment - circus - and one completely random post about goings on in my garden in June. That was the biggest surprise for me. What was it about "Hogs, frogs and fireflies" that captured your imaginations and meant it was my fourth most read post of the year? Circus was the other big surprise.
Can you shed any light on this? Which posts have you liked best over the last year and why? I'd love to hear from you.
Two years later. It's a bit late to make a comment but I will. I love all your blogs. I love to be kept in touch with. All things frenchi. Hogs frogs and fireflies is a very good title I agree. It is so hard to pick a favourite but odd traditions, like the mid day cannon are very interesting
Thanks for sharing your top 10. The title is certainly the first thing that grabs my attention - since I don't have children or teens, those two posts wouldn't catch my interest. However, Hogs, Frogs, and Butterflies is so unique I just have to click!
Isn't it funny how the posts we think will be so popular are the ones that no one seems to care about! I'm looking forward to checking out your top 10 posts!
Nice variety....as I read through the list...the Hogs, frogs and fireflies caught my eyes.
Another vote for Hogs, frogs and fireflies! Thanks Marge.
I love your posts, they are truly written from the heath. I am one too who prefers that to being overly concerned with SEO. You have such a creativity in your postings that make it a pleasure to visit and read. My favorite ones are those about cultural foods and traditions. Great job!
Thanks for your kind words Delmy, it's such a pleasure to hear I'm hitting the mark with my readers like you!
I'll sit with a coffee later to have a good read. This is a great list with plenty of variet
Enjoy your read Lorelle!
Phoebe, what a great list of your top 10! I have enjoyed reading your articles and learning! One of the things that I did not know is that the French consider it bad luck to wish someone Happy New Year before January 1st. Again, great list and I look forward to reading and learning more.
Thanks Robin, I'm really pleased you enjoy my posts.
I love that you blog from your heart! This shows your true voice and it is much more authentic than blogging because of a keyword. I love the foodie post...I love to eat! Thank you!
I'm glad you agree with me about keywords Deanna, thanks for commenting!
I think the hogs, frogs and fireflies one got a lot of hits simply because of the title! It's got a lovely ring to it: could be a great book title.
I'm not sure about a book Rachel, but I think you might be on to something, maybe it is just because of the title. A stroke of inspiration!
Oooh - I'm going to grab a cup of tea and settle down for a read. There a few posts I have missed there!
I wonder if you caught up and in which case which post/s did you like best? Thanks for your support Rosie.
