All About France #18

Welcome to the 18th All About France monthly link up all about France! You’re in the right place if you’re looking to link up a blog post, get some holiday inspiration or just have a read about your favourite country, France!

All About France blog linky with Lou Messugo

What a month it’s been since the last linky with some amazing highs and terrible lows.   I’m still reeling from the shock of the referendum in the UK.  I’ve avoided writing anything here about Brexit (though I haven’t been so quiet on Twitter) for fear of not being able to shut the floodgates once opened.  For me as a Brit whose life has been in France for nearly 20 years it has great personal implications, however it’s the wider ramifications for the UK, and Europe as an entity that worry me even more.  The result on the Friday morning was utterly depressing but the horror that’s been unleashed on the streets in the form of hate crimes since the result and the revolting extent that personal ambition has been revealed to have played a part among the most Machiavellian of politicians is just disgusting.  I really could go on, but this isn’t the place so let me tell you about the wonderful high of the month: a school trip to Barcelona to celebrate the end of Primary with my son.  Who would have thought travelling in a group of 55 kids and 25 adults could be such fun?  It was genuinely one of the most joyful trips I’ve ever taken and a shining example of what Europe should be about: freedom of travel, cooperation and friendship between cultures.  (The photo below shows paëlla for 80 in Perpignan on the way home).

Back to the linky. Thank you to all who joined in last month, here are my favourite  4, mostly travel related as we head into the summer holidays. Anyone for tennis? by Little Wandering Wren, 14 ideas for a quick family stopover in Lyon by Untold Morsels,  5 reasons to visit the Camargue by Perfectly Provence and St Jean de Luz: pure Basque charm by Tanama Tales. If you haven't already read these posts I highly recommend you do, you won't be disappointed.

While on the subject of holidays, next month I’ll be on mine; we’re off to Spain and Portugal, road tripping as always, and I’m taking a break.  I’m handing over the reins to Diane from Oui in France for the August edition of All About France, please show her your support.  I’ll be back in la rentrée!

How to participate in All About France:

This is a link-up or linky - however you want to call it - so please SHARE THE LOVE. View, comment on and share fellow bloggers links, at least 2 (as well as mine) but ideally as many as possible, don't just link-dump. Remember to come back a few days later to see who linked up after you.

Old and new posts are welcome but please limit them to 2 per link-up. Save the rest for future months.

Please add the All About France badge to the side bar of your blog and/or the post itself and a link back to either this page or the link-up. This helps to promote everyone's hard work. Posts without these will be removed.

Use the hashtag #AllAboutFrance when sharing on social media.  I will retweet tweets with the hashtag or if you mention me (@FibiTee).

If you aren't already please follow me on TwitterFacebookPinterestGoogle+ & Instagram as a courtesy, I am very appreciative and happy to follow back!  It also helps me to remind you when the next one is coming up.

P.S. Excuse the ignorance, but what does the little green tick mean that comes up in the top LH corner of some of the blog images?

Is it on the ones you've clicked through to? If not then I don't know! But if it is, it's just that, to show you've read that one.

It's gone now! It came up on a few of the ones I had clicked through to, but not all. Doesn't matter - just wondered. Bonne soirée.

Thank you for the reminder and for doing this every month. It was great to discover you, courtesy of Harriet, and I found some great blogs last month that were new to me. Takes one's mind off the B-word as well...:)

My pleasure Vanessa, it's good to try and avoid the B word for a while isn't it, even if I did mention it here!

We too are utterly gutted by the Brexit vote, what a sad, sorry and stupid result. As a Brit who has lived in mainland Europe for 8 years I feel your pain and for my children, one of whom is having a wonderful summer enjoying freedom of travel on his British passport at the moment.
Thank you for featuring my last months "all about tennis' post, I'm pleased you enjoyed it and am thrilled to be able to join again this month!
    Happy hols

You're right that it's a stupid result. It's not like electing the wrong PM or President as that can be rectified a few years later and hopefully they are kept in check by opposition etc, but this is permanent....I really fear the future if Article 50 is invoked. Glad you're back with another great post Wren!

Looks like you've got a fab selection of photos there. I'm also very concerned about the implications of the UK leaving the EU. Having lived in two EU countries I fear that Britons are losing a magnificent opportunity.

    I totally agree Stuart :(

We feel the same about brexit - a sad, sad day - but hoping and doing what we can to keep informed and support the campaign to remain.

Me too Ema, it's not over yet!

You are dead right about Brexit. A victory for the 52%, beguiled by a fascist thug and an unprincipled exhibitionist. We of the 48% felt bereaved. And now it is only too clear that the victors haven't the faintest clue about what to do, other than mouth meaningless platitudes about "taking back control".

All very worrying and depressing Richard, but I'm trying to hope Article 50 will never be invoked....

Right now it's my busiest time of year so pretty manic actually but it'll calm down in a week and then I'll start to appreciate summer. I see you've been all over Corinne!

Hi Phoebe, thanks for the reminder. Of the linkups I do, this one has to be my favorite as Jo and I love France so much and I love reading most of the posts linked here. As to your musings about Brexit, I'll just say that we have our own idiocy happening here in the states and can only hope that we won't follow the same kind of road.

Thanks for you lovely words Arnie, it's great so many people really enjoy this link-up. I so hope the US doesn't follow UK in its idiocy too!
