A day in my life

Today I'm being featured in a series on the daily reality of expat life on my friend Clara's blog The Expat Partner's Survival Guide.  The idea of the series is to show what really goes on in an expat's life - the nitty gritty ordinary stuff that never gets written about, to debunk the myth that it's all cocktail parties, long lunches and domestic help.

It starts like this....

breakfast at Lou Messugo

I get up at 7.30 but my day really starts around 8.15 after the kids have gone to school when I have a calm breakfast on my own usually consisting of a Franco-British combo of toasted leftover baguette “tartines” with marmite, some fruit and a coffee. At this time of year I eat it outside on the terrace.

If you'd like to have a stickybeak at what a regular day is like in my life, running a gîte in the South of France, then click through to A day in my expat life and have a nosey.  Tell Clara I sent you and show her some love.

Clara, by the way, has written an excellent book to help expat partners prepare, settle, survive and thrive in foreign locations which I can't recommend more highly for anyone contemplating a move or relocating. You can buy a copy through her website or by clicking on the badge in my sidebar.

If, like me, you enjoy finding out more about the person behind the blog (this blog, ie me!) you might also like this article:

Hi Phoebe, I was expecting to read this and say how glamorous your life was nevertheless but you've definitely convinced me yours is as mundane as mine (school pick ups, supermarket shops, endless washing...) apart from the super glamorous location of course. Lovely to read all about it.

Ha ha Clare, sorry to disappoint! It is the whole premise of Clara's series really, to show that "normal" life goes on no matter where you live. Glad you enjoyed your peak into my day.
